Exclusive Interview: 82MAJOR Breaks the Silence with Their Boldest Chapter Yet

As the six-member ensemble 82MAJOR, Nam Seong Mo, Park Seok Joon, Yoon Ye Chan, Cho Seong Il, Hwang Seong Bin, and Kim Do Gyun erupts back onto the K‑pop scene, they’re doing more than just dropping beats. Their third mini‑album, SILENCE SYNDROME, released on April 14, 2025, stakes their claim as boundary‑pushers both musically and conceptually. Known for blending hard-hitting hip-hop with emotive storytelling, this comeback is, by far, their boldest statement to date.
Defined by its four-tracks, headlined by the genre‑blending title track “TAKEOVER” and anchored by fan‑dedicated tunes like “Promise You,” the album dives into the duality of silence: the oppression of conformity, and the ability to shatter it with self‑expression.
What makes SILENCE SYNDROME truly stand out is the group's artistic growth. Six months after X‑82, every 82MAJOR member took part in writing and composing, infusing the project with layers of authenticity, introspection, and rebellious energy.
Although their rise may seem meteoric, 82MAJOR’s success is anything but accidental. Since their explosive debut in October 2023 with the single album ON, 82MAJOR has carved a distinct lane in K-pop’s 5th generation, capturing attention with their intense performances, grounded charisma, and hands-on artistry.
In this exclusive interview, TINYgMUSIC had the opportunity to chat with the group about amplifying their voices, translating on‑stage intensity into recorded tracks, the special bond with fans that gave birth to the album’s softer moments, and how SILENCE SYNDROME marks their loudest, and most personal era yet.
How does it feel to be back after six months since your last comeback? What do you think has changed most since then?
I think our music and performance became even more intense. The message of the songs is about breaking the frame and creating a new kind of order with 82MAJOR’s own music. We prepared this album to show you our own rebellious side!

The title 'SILENCE SYNDROME' evokes a sense of resistance to societal constraints. Can you share more about the concept of this album and what it means to you personally?
Firstly, our album title SILENCE SYNDROME represents the way people stay silent (SILENCE) and obey a structured system today. Secondly, through our unique music, we want to give people such an amazing experience that it leaves them totally speechless (SILENCE).

In what ways does SILENCE SYNDROME differ from your previous work? How have your experiences and growth as artists influenced this project?
While monitoring our performances from the last X-82 promotions, we worked on improving the parts we felt were lacking to show you how much we’ve grown. Thinking about all the support we got from our fans gave us the strength to work hard and prepare for it.

As an artist, I believe I’m growing thanks to all the love from our fans. We captured that experience in our very first fan song, “Promise You.” While working on it, we kept thinking about all the love we felt from our fans and how grateful we are for them. I think this song, filled with our true feelings, added more sincerity to the album.

Do you each have a favourite moment or memory from the comeback preparations that you can share with us?
When we were working on “Heroes”! SEONG MO came up with the line ‘걸음걸이 주윤발’ (translated to ‘Walking like Chow Yun-fat’), and as soon as he said it, we were all shook! We were all like, “That’s it!” It felt like the perfect line for the song. I think it’s a line that really captures our cool style and confidence.

The tracks on your new album have mostly been created by the members. How do you feel about being able to participate in the creative side of being more than just a singer? Can you please tell us about the writing process and inspiration behind writing the songs?
We’re delighted to create our own music and release it. Since we make our own songs, I think our unique 82MAJOR style is naturally starting to come through.
We write our songs in a song camp style. We put a mic in the middle, play a beat, and take turns trying out melodies. Then we pick the ones we like best through a vote. Since we make the songs ourselves, we can feel our skills improving each time. And because we work in such a playful vibe with the members, the whole process is more enjoyable.

Just like SEONG MO said earlier, I was also inspired by the love from our fans when I worked on “Promise You,” our very first fan song included in this album. Especially while reading the letters our fans wrote to us!

Rather than calling it inspiration, I think it’s more about always wanting to create better music. I love music, and I always think about fans who love our songs, too!

Why do you think “TAKEOVER” is an excellent choice for the album’s title track? Please tell us more about the B-Side tracks “HERO,” “Passport,” and “Promise You” as well.
We thought “TAKEOVER” was the perfect song to convey 82MAJOR’s intensity. With direct expression and choreography, we wanted to show a rebellious and fearless side of us!

“HEROES” is a song about living bravely and wisely, and it has a really addictive chorus.

“Passport” is a song about 82MAJOR travelling all over the world, performing so much that there aren’t even any pages left in our passport for more stamps.

“Promise You” is our first fan song. We made it while thinking of our fans. Even the title was chosen through a fan vote! That’s why it’s such a meaningful song we created together with 82DE.
- Nam Seong Mo
Which of the album’s songs is your favourite, and which would you recommend the most and why?
Our title track “TAKEOVER”! I think it’s the perfect song to show off 82MAJOR’s full intensity. Not just the song, but the choreography and music video are also cool. It’s definitely my favourite, and I want to recommend it to our fans.

I’d have to say “Promise You” for both. It’s our very first fan song, which makes it meaningful, and it’s extra special because we made it while thinking of our fans. The title was chosen by the fans through a vote, so it’s really a song we made together. It’s a gift from us to 82DE (82MAJOR fandom name)!

“HEROES” for both! Once you hear it, you’ll feel 82MAJOR’s confidence and charisma right away. The line ‘걸음걸이 주윤발’ (translated to ‘Walking like Chow Yun-fat’) especially shows our desire to walk with confidence and aura, just like him.

82MAJOR is recognised for its visually striking music videos. What can fans expect from the MV for “TAKEOVER”?
The fact that the music video for “TAKEOVER” is a prequel to our last title track, “Stuck”! In “TAKEOVER,” we break free from a system of silence and conformity, but then realise simply escaping isn’t true freedom. That’s when we decide to do what we’re meant to do. That’s how, in the “Stuck” music video, we end up training as secret agents. If you pay close attention to this storyline, you’ll find it more interesting to watch!

Plus, there are lots of witty scenes too, like the part where Do Gyun pretends to be a mannequin. And it’s fun to watch with all the dynamic camera angles.

Are there any interesting and fun behind-the-scenes stories from the video set?
There was a scene where we were all running down the street together, and I remember a dog that was out for a walk suddenly joined us and started running with us too. It was so funny haha.

For the scene where we are in a car and speeding down the road, the director drove the car himself for us. We all had a great time filming because the director lifted the mood on set!

If you could perform one of your new songs in a completely unexpected setting (like a beach, on a roller coaster, etc.), where would it be and why?
I’d love to perform “TAKEOVER” on top of a building. I want to perform from up high, looking down at everyone to give off a cocky vibe!

I’d love to perform “HEROES” on the moon. I would be a secret agent and save the moon!
- Yoon Ye Chan
Which member is the most "perfectionist" during comeback prep—and who’s the most chill?
Me! Whenever members are having a hard time with the choreography, I help them out and work hard to make sure our performance looks as polished as possible.

I think SEOK JOON is the chillest one. Off stage, SEOK JOON gives off a relaxed vibe. But once he is on stage, it’s a total transformation and he looks so cool!

You never fail to surprise your fans with new concepts and images for your comebacks? Can the same be said for your personal fashion sense? What are your current fashion likes and must haves?
I’m not so sure about the surprise twist part, haha. But lately, I’ve been into accessories!
- Cho Seong Il
I don’t have one set style that I stick to. I pretty much like every style! I’m open to anything!
- Yoon Ye Chan
While it’s still early in your journey, what have you found to be the most rewarding aspects of your career so far, particularly during this phase of your career?
It was during our “Stuck” promotions, when we held a mini fan meeting. I was really surprised by how many fans came. I still can’t forget the sight of so many fans all gathered together in one space. The cheers that day were so loud, which gave me so much energy to perform better on stage! The moment felt truly special because I could feel the full love from our 82DE.

Do you have any pre-performance rituals or lucky charms that help you feel confident before going on stage?
All the members gather together and shout “Fighting!” before we go on stage.

Are there any exciting collaborations or future projects that fans can look forward to?
First up, we have a solo concert scheduled in Korea this June! It’ll be our 4th concert already, and all I can say is it’s going to be even cooler and more fun than ever!

SEONG MO! SEONG MO eats a lot of snacks on a daily basis.

If you could perform at any iconic venue or festival around the world, where would it be and why?
EDC. I love DJ-ing, so I’d like to stand on stage and perform together.

Super Bowl! I like sports a lot, and among all sports games ‘Super Bowl’ is the one that has a huge stage size and would allow us to put on an amazing performance with great production.

What are your long-term goals as a group, both in terms of music and your career?
We want to become artists that people remember for a long time. Like ‘Queen’!

To wrap up this interview, can you please share with our readers the songs that you have been listening most to lately and a message to your fans?
‘Dua Lipa - Physical’ / The overall melody of the song is not too heavy, so it’s easy to listen to!

‘SOLE - RIDE (feat. THAMA)’ / I’ve been listening to it a lot in the car while we move in between schedules. I’d love for the fans to listen with me!

Preparing for the new album, we made a lot of effort to show you our growth. We thought of all the love and support we receive from our fans!
