Big Ocean, the first hard-of-hearing boy group, is renowned for breaking boundaries in the music industry while making their music accessible to all. This accomplished group embarked on their North American tour, 'The Greatest Battle,' on April 16, 2026.
I was fortunate to sit down and interview Jiseok, PJ, and Chanyeon, where our conversation touched on their individual interests, motivations, and hopes for future careers. Each member brought a unique warmth to the discussion, filling it with humor and genuine excitement. They expressed heartfelt appreciation for their fans, who have supported them through every challenge.
When asked about the experiences they wish to create for fans in the future, Jiseok shared how he's been intensely learning English to better communicate and connect with Pado. His desire to foster deeper conversations reflects his sincere wish to connect with the fans who supported him through his journey. PJ mentioned his wish to have a cute couple photo with Pado, while Chanyeon, with a sense of mystery, revealed his as a secret that fans should keep an eye out for.
Before the night began, Big Ocean graced the stage, performing songs “Glow” and “Alive.” They took the time to teach fans sign language and dance moves, fostering a sense of unity and shared joy during the concert. The venue's intimate size created a close, heartfelt experience. Fans also had the chance to chat with the members as they browsed merchandise.
During sound check, I spoke with fans of all ages and backgrounds, each sharing touching stories of how they became fans of Big Ocean and expressing their gratitude for the chance to support such inspiring artists who continue to break new ground.
The concert opened with “Cold Moon,” an upbeat track from their latest album, The Greatest Battle. The energy and excitement from the audience grew as they explored the group's diverse discography.
Throughout the night, the warmth and connection between members and fans were evident. The members playfully teased each other and fans, showing their genuine closeness and affection, which resonated deeply.
Each member partook in individual solo performances highlighting their diverse skills. Jiseok's remarkable dancing skills showcased as he performed “Back” from their recent album radiated confidence and passion. PJ's solo, “Sink,” offered a memorable moment, a skit with a fan playing the role of his ex-girlfriend on stage, which he reflected on in the interview as his joy in trying new ways to connect. Despite the chosen fan being nervous, the members' kindness and support made her feel comfortable and cherished.
Chanyeon chose a song with deep personal meaning. After his solo, he shared how, when he was younger after receiving his cochlear implant, he listened to that song daily, sharing its significance with everyone, and touching the hearts of fans while spreading warmth throughout the venue.
Later, more fortunate fans were given the chance to engage with the members, including taking group photos on stage. Every joke, performance, and moment of interaction was filled with energy and genuine emotion, creating a night full of joy.
Before closing with “Slow” from their EP Follow, PJ reminded everyone, "When you're having a hard time, don't give up. Just keep going." His words carried a heartfelt message of resilience, which echoed through the lyrics of “Slow” that speak of never giving up, and soaring high together.
As Big Ocean concludes their 'The Greatest Battle' North American Tour, they continue to inspire and remind fans that anything is possible with hope, perseverance, and love.
