The upbeat, cheerful, and charismatic track see the members sway smoothly in the dance video. "Butter" is a catchy dance-pop track that begins with a captivating bass line. The instrumentation is fabulous and reminiscent of 1980s. The amazing synth rocks in this song. The synth solo is quite possibly the most memorable moment in BTS' singles history. This song has commercial magic with a memorable melody hook. This song is true BTS with its cheekiness, oozing fun vibes that we know BTS all too well for.

"Butter" was produced by Rob Grimaldi, Stephen Kirk, Ron Perry, and RM also participated in the song.

"Butter" starts in black and white mode before it switches to color as they dance, sing and rap. They each take a turn grooving in an elevator, dance together in a gymnasium, and appear onstage under pulsating lights with members going full out on the screen with their suave personalities. On the feel-good, flirty dance track, they sing about being “smooth like butter” and having a “superstar glow.”

In an interview with Rolling Stone, "Butter" was called “a pure, swaggering dance-pop celebration in the retro vein of Bruno Mars, with layers of Jam and Lewis-style synths.” The group’s leader RM said it was “very energetic and very summery,” with a “dynamic performance.” There is no denying that.

"Butter" is BTS’ second English language single after "Dynamite" that has broken and continues to break records worldwide. It looks like the only competition "Dynamite" will have is '"Butter" breaking their already phenomenal records.

For "Dynamite," BTS received its first Grammy nomination in the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance category. The band lost out on the award. However, their virtual performance at the ceremony was magnificent.

The "Butter" MV had already achieved 17,599,004 views within 45 minutes of release. It was shortly afterward confirmed that "Butter" had become the fastest MV in YouTube history to surpass 20 million views in just 54 minutes. This broke their previous record of 1 hour 14 minutes by "Dynamite."
